Resources I use for language learning
The following are the resources I’ve been using all the time for improving whatever language I’m studying or maintaining at the moment.
🗣Italki (free $10). I cannot stress enough how awesome this resource is. I found teachers online who are way more affordable than other places I checked. Comparing the other languages with Italki this one is way cheaper. So I’m using it all the time to practice listening but mostly speaking. As some theories suggest speaking the target language from day one is the way to go. Of course I cannot focus only on Italki or I would spend all my money, which I would do with no regret :P
📱Kindle. Reading for language fluency is an amazing tool. Kindle is essential for installing a dictionary on my target language and just tap on the word to see a definition or translation whenever I don’t understand something. I noticed such a difference when I started to read in English back in the days that I made reading my main focus to study any language. Kindle is the perfect tool for that.
📚Assimil. My favorite book series for teaching myself a language. Bidirectional with the language I’m using for learning it. The recordings are only in the target language and a perfect speed for a learner. It can be a bit expensive to purchase the audios plus de book, but the format of the printed material motivates me while learning. In addition I combine this with Anki as I explain in video.
🎯Freedom App. Basically I use this tool for blocking all my internet (computer and phone) in case I have to study languages. Block just the social networks or certain cites is also an option it offers in case I still need a site for translating or consulting information. The beauty of it is that once the timer is set and the session has started, it cannot be stopped till the time that has been put is over. It can be a bit pricey, but it’s only one time payment and it’s well worth it.
